My Hero My Dad

I made this card for a friend to give her dad for his birthday last year. What shocked me was that I wrote the poem myself! It was a God send because I can't write poems, I just wanted something that fit and blessed both of them. I just started with "All through the years" and it just flowed. I wrote it down on a piece of printed junk mail of all things! I read it to her and said will this work? She looked stunned and said, it is perfect! I told her that I really had been listening to her talk about her dad and it just fell together.

She had told me about all through the years, her dad had been there for her. She had also told me how he'd raised her alone, had been there for her through the darkest days of her life and rejoiced with her during happy times.

The project got started when she said she wanted to get him a special card and hadn't found what she wanted. I told her that I'd make her one. I'd made several concertina cards recently and had just gotten the dies for the lace edge shapes. I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do but wanted a recent picture of the two of them and one when she was very young and some pictures in between to illustrate the "All Through the Years" theme that I had in mind. We didn't have much time but she managed to find enough pictures to scan to make it work. I originally blurred out their faces but she told me to go ahead and post it without the blur. I had planned to make a regular size card but just couldn't bear to leave out any of the pictures. Since she was hand delivering it, it didn't matter what size! Oh, and the card DOES stand up!

This will probably be one of my all time favorite cards.
